Instagram is one of the biggest social media networks of the last decade. It was first introduced in October of 2010 and within 2 months of launching, it gained over 1 million users. With over 500+million active daily users, Instagram must be an area of focus if you want to grow your business. Here are my 5 reasons why you should advertise on Instagram.
1- More Millennials use Instagram.
There’s no denying it, Millennials are the largest working force currently in the world. Many of the baby boomers are now retiring and no matter what business you’re in, Millennials should be your main focus. Which is why Instagram should be your best advertising tool.
It’s really important that you can capture the attention of people on Instagram. Unlike advertising on Facebook, Instagram is a different beast. It’s a bit more focused. People communicate differently on Instagram compared to Facebook. It’s very image focus, you can’t write a big post like you can on Facebook. Also when you make a video ad on Facebook, you can insert a call to action button that would bring you potential customer to whatever link that you’ve added. That same video ad will not work on Instagram because it’s a different platform, there is no clickable button that is allowed.
The “style” used in Instagram is also different. Most images on Instagram are very stylized, they usually have bold colors and a quote that invokes a sort of emotions. That doesn’t mean that you can’t do the same thing on a Facebook post, but the audience of the two are very different.
2- Influencers Can Be a Great Way to Advertise.
Influencers are people that have a lot of followers on Instagram. There’s a minimum requirement of 1000 followers until you can make a “swipe up” ad on your Instagram stories. Influencers with over a thousand followers can be a great partner when you are trying to advertise your product but are lacking the amount of followers needed.
They can be a great help because of how many people like and comment on every post that they make. By partnering with an Influencer, they can make a post that contains your product or even better is a video of them using your product. This can be a great win-win scenario for both parties. You can pay them a fee, depending on how popular they are and you can benefit from the followers that they have. You might even get a great deal when you compare it to typical advertising costs.
3- The Power of Hashtags.
Hashtags are the bread and butter of Instagram. It’s sort of a way to mark your photo with a niche or a quote that other people are already following. For example, if you are selling handmade jewelry, you hashtags should be keywords that relate to your photo. #HandmadeJewelry #CustomNecklace #Madewithlove #CustomJewelry, you get the point. By using these hashtags, you sort of narrow down the audience that you are trying to target.
Users who follow handmade jewelry post will start to see your photos popping in their feed and sooner or later you will start to get followers. By using the power of hashtags, you can start to grow a following and start to advertise more aggressively, remember that you need at least 1000 followers before you can make a swipe up video ad. So what that is, is basically a short video ad, usually around 15-30 seconds where you can attach a link to your product or service that you are promoting when a user “swipes up” on your video. Once you have this feature, you can start making enticing videos that makes customers want to know more about your product. Similar to making a sales funnel, you are directing your customer to the sales page and hopefully you can start making sales.
4- Instagram is a Mobile King.
During my daily commutes to work and home, I often see a lot of people using Instagram around me. Since Instagram is a mobile app, the best time to make a post is usually around 5 PM when people are going back home. Rarely, do I see someone pull out a laptop during a train ride, it’s usually their mobile phone that they use when surfing the web. By making your ads mobile friendly, you have a greater chance of getting a sale during those peak hours.
5- Great Way to Communicate With Your Customers.
By posting on a daily basis, you can start to build a solid following. Using specialized hashtags, you will eventually have customers leaving comments on your post. Communication is such an important aspect of a business and by having your customers directly message you, you can create a strong community of loyal customers. Start by focusing on creating High-Quality post with lots of hashtags to get as many people liking, commenting and sharing your post. The more likes and comments you receive, the more people will start seeing your company pop up on their feed and the higher the chances of you getting more followers.
