5 Mistakes to avoid when doing Affiliate Marketing.

Affiliate Marketing is probably my favorite way of building an income. I’m sure that you have products from companies that you really like. Doing a simple Google search with the company name and affiliate next to it, I’m certain that you will find their affiliate page.

Affiliate Marketing can be a lucrative business to get into but you must avoid these mistakes that almost every Affiliate Marketers swear by.

Mistake Number 1: Not knowing that it takes a lot of practice.

Like everything in life, it takes a lot of practice for you to get better at doing something. No one is born knowing how to ride a bike, we all had to learn it at one time in our lives. I remember in my 2nd year of highschool, I had an english essay to do. It wasn’t that long, only 1000 words but it seemed like an impossible task. I remember panicking because I never wrote anything that long before and for 30% of my grades, I was sweating buckets. A thousand words today doesn’t seem that bad, I’d probably have a harder time trying to stick to a thousand words but this all took some practice.

Writing was never my strong suit, from misspelling words to repeating myself over and over again. I just wanted to be better, and this is the same for Affiliate Marketing. No one knows Affiliate Marketing when they first start out, it’s more of a trial and error kind of knowledge. We’ve grown accustomed to having things arrive to us quickly (thank you Amazon for that) and we forget to realize that it takes a lot of time for things to get to where they need to be. Just like you can’t meet a girl and ask her to marry you after two hours (well you can try, but I don’t recommend it) same thing with Affiliate Marketing. You can’t make a post or a video and expect to be rich in 2 weeks or 1 month, well anything is possible so it might happen but that’s a very, very slim chance.

Practice makes perfect, we’ve all heard it and it’s true. You gotta try something and make adjustments until you are satisfied with it. So by knowing that this journey will take a while, just relax and plan ahead. Keep doing what you’re doing and one day you can see that by making small steps everyday, you will find yourself at the top of the mountain sooner or later.

Mistake Number 2: Stuck in a Get Rich Quick Mindset.

We’ve all wanted to get rich quick, I think about it almost every single day. However, when doing affiliate marketing, that kind of mentality will only slow you down. Affiliate marketing, takes time.Yea some people get the luck of the draw and win big but the majority of us needs to realize that affiliate marketing isn’t a get rich quick scheme. We must embrace delayed gratification in order to keep focus and continue making quality content. By having a get rich quick mentality, you are actually putting more weight on your shoulders and when things don’t go the way you want, you just want to drop it and quit. You start jumping from one thing to the next and the next until you say to yourself that affiliate marketing is bullcrap and it doesn’t work.

You start becoming a jack of all trades but a master of none. Had you stuck with one thing and stayed with it long term until you’ve mastered it, you’d be successful. Unlike a job where you trade 40 hours of your time and get a paycheck, affiliate marketing doesn’t work like that. You have to give and give and give all your time and energy and not make any money in the short term. Only having hope that potentially down the road you will start to see growth and income. It’s not as easy as you may think, you can’t just post links randomly and become a millionaire. You to treat this like a seperate business and businesses needs time to grow and so do you.

I make these blogs in the hope that maybe one person will read it, and in the long run many more people come here and read my blog. I write because I want to get better and by getting better I get a little bit more successful every time. It’s those little steps and that eventually get me to the top.

Mistake Number 3: Nothing thinking about other people.

My boss told me one day that the customers are the lifeblood of any company. If you want to be successful you need to think about other people. You have to think about their needs, their wants, and any way that you can help them. When you start to build up an audience, it will only be a matter of time until they come to you for advice. You can’t be selfish and push them away and just ask for their money, that won’t work. You will crash and burn. Instead, give content away for free. Yes, for free. Make a YouTube video or a blog or write a book and give it away. No matter what you do, you must add value to someone else’s life.

By doing things like this, you are building a strong relationship with people. Not thinking about other people also means not asking for help. It’s difficult to do this on your own, and in the long run you will just end up losing precious time. Finding a mentor can accelerate your success. Finding seminars, networking, reading books, hiring a coach, all of these are important for growing, not only yourself but your business as well. By thinking of other people and what they can do for you, you can achieve great things.

Mistake Number 4: Not using Higher Ticket items.

High ticket items are items that are more than $500. Mostly, when affiliate marketers are talking about High Ticket items, they are mostly talking about digital items. Those digital items can vary from courses, to software, to even physical items. As long as you are promoting something that cost $500 or more, anything can be a high ticket item.

This is still a skill that I am trying to learn, since I started, I’ve only been using low ticket items. Amazon affiliate is perfect for that, but you only get an average of 5% commission. By focusing on High Ticket items you’ll obviously make more money by promoting those items.

When somebody buys a product or a service at higher prices they are typically more invested than someone who just consumes content for free. By actually putting their money on the line, they will be more focus on the services that you recommend. Therefore it is very important that you believe in the products that you endorse on your site or your social media. Usually the high ticket items do have better quality, both in production and the services offered. With these high prices comes high commissions, and that is why you should try to promote high ticket items that have amazing customer service, quality content and reasonably priced for the services that they offer.

Mistake Number 5: Not having a job to support yourself.

Everybody wants to be a millionaire, but you can’t have something for nothing. You always have to trade something, either your time or your money or both. When you first start affiliate marketing, it’s easy to get lost in the idea of never working a regular job again. I know I have been there, daydreaming of what I want to say when I finally quit my job.

But this is reality and reality will hit you so hard that you want to quit. That’s why you have to persevere, continue working (if your job sucks, look for a better one) but still have a job in order to support yourself and this business that you are trying to grow. Put in some time and money every now and then to make sure that you are heading in the right path. If you have to turn down a night with the guys because you want to record a video for your YouTube channel, or reschedule a date with your significant other so that you can finish 4 blogs in one night. You are not “ditching” them but you are using your time wisely, and in the end you are actually making more time for yourself so that you can enjoy your life.

Having a job can suck, trust me, I’ve had jobs where I hated waking up in the morning but I was going to work. But there are jobs out there that you will actually enjoy, you just have to find them. If you don’t have the credentials, then work at it until you do.

Skillshare is an awesome platform to learn new things. From writing a blog, to affiliate marketing, to creating comics, anything you want to learn, Skillshare has a video for you. Click here https://skillshare.eqcm.net/4DbBM to get TWO MONTHS FREE of unlimited classes when you sign up. No commitment, cancel anytime. I love art, and one of the classes that Skillshare offers is Ink Drawing Techniques by Yuko Shimizu, her artwork is amazing and I love the way she teaches.

By learning new skills, you can apply for better jobs. By having better jobs, you can support yourself and your business and by having a better business, you can let it support you. But it all depends on you taking action. If you do nothing, you get nothing.

Having a job is much easier, you know when you start work and when you finish. You know exactly how many hours per week that you are putting in and how much you will get paid. It’s easier to support yourself. Affiliate Marketing without a job is like, trying to get out of a cave without a flashlight. You’ll be going in circles, and you will want to pull out your hair.

So don’t quit your day job yet until you feel that your side business can match or exceed your monthly income. This all takes time, but keep at it and one day you will get to where you want to be.

Hey, I'm Reginald but you can call me Reggie. Have you ever spent countless hours watching YouTube videos of successful people living their lives, showing off their bank accounts, and living the life that you always wanted? I did, I kept on watching video after video after video and I didn't really take any action. I learned a lot but what is the point of learning if you don't use that knowledge? So I started this blog, even if no one reads it, I am doing this for me. It keeps me focus and helps me produce something that can be helpful to people. I will mostly focus on Affiliate Marketing and creating a side job that will eventually become my primary job. I want to live the life that I've always dreamed of living and I won't stop until I get to where I'm supposed to be. Over time, I will start blogging more about myself so you can get to know me and realize that behind every blog post there is a decent human typing those words. I am still a student and I think I will forever be a student of life and this blog will help me take the lessons that I have learned and write them in my own words. New posts every Tuesday!
